This policy requires a supervised device and is supported on iOS 8.1.3 and later (and macOS 10.11 and later). It’s useful in schools and workplaces to reduce distractions or control access during exams and sensitive tasks. The setting applies after device sync, and if left Not configured, definition lookup remains enabled by default.

How to Start Policy Creation
As an Admin, you can quickly configure this policy on your organisation. To start the Policy Creation, open the Microsoft Intune Admin center. Then go to Devices > Configuration >+ Create > +New Policy. Profile creation is the necessary step that helps you to assign the policy to appropriate platform and Profile. Then click on the Create button.

Filling the Basic Tab
Naming the policy is the primary step that help admins to identify the policy later. This is important and necessary step that allows you to know the purpose of the policy. Here is Name is mandatory and description is optional. After adding this click on the Next button.

Configure Definition Lookup Policy
With Settings Picker, you can use the Configuration Settings Tab. On this tab, you can click on the +Add Settings hyperlink to get the Settings Picker. The settings picker shows huge number of settings. I choose Restrictions. Then, I choose Allow Definition Lookup settings.

Once you have selected this settings and closed the Settings picker. You will see it on the Configuration page. Here we have only two settings: True or false. By default,it will be set to Allow. If you want to allow these settings, click on the Next button.

Block Definition Lookup Policy
If we block or don’t configure this policy, you can block the definition lookup by toggling the switch from right to left. Then, you can click the Next button to continue.

What is Scope Tag
A Scope Tag in Intune is used to control visibility and access to Intune resources based on administrative roles. Scope tags are not mandatory. You can add the scope tag using the Select scope tags button. Click the Next button to proceed.

Assignments Tab
On the Assignments tab, we can select which users or devices get this policy. Under Include Groups, click Add Groups. From the list, select the group that we want to target (HTMD Supervised Devices – iOS/iPadOS). Then click the Next button.

Review + Create Step
At the final Review + Create step, we see a summary of all configured settings for the new profile; after reviewing the details and making any necessary changes by clicking Previous. We click Create to finish, and a notification confirms that the “Allow Definition Lookup creates successfully”.

Monitoring Status After Policy Creation
We can check a policy’s status in the Intune Portal. Generally, it takes about 8 hours for policies to be created. Use the manual sync option to reduce the configuration delay in the Company Portal app on the device, then check the status again. Navigate to Devices> Configuration. Click on the specific policy(Allow Definition Lookup).

How to Remove Assigned Group from Definition Lookup Policy
Sometimes, we need to remove a group from a policy assignment for security updates. Open the policy from the Configuration tab and click on the Edit button on the Assignment tab. Click on the Remove button on this section to remove the policy. Click Review + Save after making the change.
