Hi, today, I will explore how to Enable Microsoft Translation in Edge via Microsoft 365 Admin Center Policy for Windows and macOS. This policy was created to enable Microsoft Translation in Edge, which is useful for users who want to translate web pages into their preferred language quickly.

The policies for Microsoft Edge are implemented to manage the browser’s configuration and operational parameters within an organization. Enables the built-in Microsoft translation feature in the Microsoft Edge browser, allowing users to quickly translate web pages into their selected language.

When this policy is enabled, Microsoft Edge will prompt users to translate a webpage by displaying an added translation flyout if the language detected on the webpage is not one of the selected languages. Additionally, a translation option will be available in the right-click context menu.

Users can translate selected text on a webpage through the right-click context menu or on a PDF using the PDF toolbar and the right-click context menu. If this policy is not configured, it will be enabled by default. Users can decide whether to use the translation feature.

  • Select the Settings option from the left pane of the portal
  • Click on Microsoft Edge 
  • Select Configuration Policies
  • Hit on + Create Policy

After you click the +Create policy button, you will see different tabs for making a Configuration policy. The first tab is called Basic and you need to enter the policy’s Name, Description, Type and Platform. This helps you identify the policy later.

For this policy, set the type to Intune and the platform to Windows 10 and 11. After entering all the details, click on the Next button.

Configure Policy for Edge using Settings

After adding Basics, you will enter Settings, where you can assign a configuration policy for Microsoft Edge to ensure constant management and security. This is the second step.

  • Click on + Add Policy.
  • To find a policy, enter its name.
  • Now, you will see the policy name on the right side of the window.
  • Select it.

Here, you can see Value and More details.

Value

Add Value from the dropdown arrow (Enable or Disable). Here, I select Enabled. You can disable this feature if you want to turn off all translation options.

Note: This section is always mandatory and cannot be overridden by users.

More Details

You can enable the Microsoft translation service in Microsoft Edge. If this feature is on, Edge will ask you to translate a webpage when it finds a language that is not your preferred. You will see a prompt for translation. You can also find a translation option in the right-click menu.

You can translate selected text on a webpage or in a PDF using the right-click menu or PDF toolbar. The translation feature is enabled by default, so you can choose whether to use it.

Extensions

These are the default settings for all extensions in this policy. You can change these defaults for managed extensions. You can avoid this section and proceed to the next window by clicking the Next option.

Assignment

The Assignment is the second-to-last option. It lets you add groups to assign your policy and shows which user or device will receive it. Click on the Select group option to continue and select a group from Microsoft Entra group which is given by default. You will receive a notification indicating that the groups have been updated.

Finish

The Finish tab is the last and final step in the policy creation process. Here, you can review all the details given in the previous steps. If you need to make any changes, you can return to the last window by selecting the Back button and continuing. Once you have confirmed all the details are correct, click Review and Create.

End User Experience

To see the end-user experience, you should open Microsoft Edge. Then go the Settings and More (… dots) in the right upper pane.

  • Click on Settings
  • Select Languages
  • There you can see Offer to translate pages that aren’t in a language I read is Enabled (On).
