With the new update, Paint enhances its features with two new AI tools, Generative Fill and Generative Erase. Meanwhile, Notepad now includes a Rewrite function for more straightforward text modifications. In this blog post, I will briefly discuss these features.

Notepad with Generative AI (version 11.2410.15.0)
Notepad now has AI tools that help rewrite text. Using generative AI, Notepad allows users to change text length, rephrase, or adjust tone easily.
To rewrite,
- Select the text, right-click to choose the Rewrite option, or use Ctrl + I.
- Notepad will provide three versions to choose from.
- You can select one or click Retry to generate more options.
The Rewrite feature in Notepad is available on Windows 11 in the US, France, the UK, Canada, Italy, and Germany. Users must sign in with a Microsoft account. Microsoft 365 and Copilot Pro subscribers in Australia and other Asian countries can use AI credits for this feature.

New MS Paint has AI Powered Fill and Erase Options (version 11.2410.28.0)
Paint now has two generative capabilities: Generative Fill and Generative Erase. Additionally, it has been enhanced with updates to Cocreator and Image Creator.

Generative Fill
Generative fill is a valuable tool for artists. It allows you to easily edit and add to your work while keeping the same style. It’s great for both pros and hobbyists. Generative Fill lets users change or add elements to an image by defining their needs with text prompts. They can select and describe an area to create new content matching the image style.
- Use the Selection tool in the Paint toolbar to make a Rectangle or Free-form selection.
- After selection, a pop-up will appear next to it and select Generative Fill.
- Then, type in what you want to add and click Create.
Users can Try Again or change their prompt. Use the arrows to browse and click Keep to add a choice.
Note: Generative fill will be available on Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs for Windows Insiders in select markets. A Microsoft account is required, and availability may change by region.
Generative Erase
Generative Erase is a new AI tool for removing unwanted objects from an image. It fills the space, making the picture look like those objects were never there.
Let’s check how to use the Generatvie Erase tool.
- Select Generative Erase on the left side of the canvas with the eraser tool.
- Use the brush to choose areas to remove, and adjust your selection using Add area to erase or Reduce area to erase.
Click Apply to remove the object.
You can also use rectangular or freeform selection tools from the pop-up menu or right-click menu to specify areas for removal.
Update to Image Creator and Cocreator
Image Creator in Paint is available with a Microsoft account for Windows 11 users in the U.S., France, the UK, Canada, Italy, and Germany. Microsoft 365 subscribers in Australia, New Zealand, and several Asian countries can use AI credits to access it.
This update speeds up and improves Cocreator’s results. It also includes moderation features. Cocreator works on Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs.
