Hi let’s discuss how to enable disable Touch Keyboard Wide Mode Availability policy using Intune. As you all know that Microsoft Intune is a cloud-based endpoint management solution that allows administrators to configure and enforce policies across devices.
You know this policy is very important because Touch keyboards are an important part of devices, especially for smartphones and tablets. They allow users to type conveniently without needing a physical keyboard. Wide Keyboard Mode is a touch keyboard feature that enlarges the keyboard.
Wide Keyboard Mode improves typing speed, comfort, and accessibility. While many users find it helpful, others may prefer a standard keyboard for space or ease of use. It can be turned on or off, users can adjust it to their preference easily.
When Wide Keyboard Mode is turned on, the keyboard becomes larger with more space between the keys. This makes typing easier, reducing errors and improving accuracy. The wider layout also makes typing more comfortable and enhances accessibility for users.

What Happens When the Wide Keyboard Mode is Set to Disabled in Microsoft Intune?

When the “wide keyboard mode” policy for the touch keyboard is set to disabled, the wide keyboard mode for the touch keyboard is turned off. This means the touch keyboard will use the standard layout instead of the wider layout.
Touch Keyboard Wide Mode Availability- CSP Details
Above discussed a detailed overview of Keyboard Wide Mode Availability. It’s important to also include the policy’s CSP (Configuration Service Provider) details, as they play a key role in policy deployment. These details outline the scope, version, and the operating system versions where the policy applies.
Keep in mind that this setting is only a placeholder and should not be used in a live production environment. The table below provides the specifications and descriptions of this setting.
Property Name | Property Value |
---|---|
Format | int |
Access Type | Add, Delete, Get, Replace |
Default Value | 0 |

- Enable a Different Keyboard Layout for Each App Window in Windows 11
- Enable Disable On-Screen Keyboard in Windows 11
- Keyboard Layout Prompt in Windows Autopilot OOBE Process
Create Profile
To deploy this policy using Microsoft Intune, start by signing into the Microsoft Intune admin center. Then, go to Devices > Configurations. On the right-hand side, click +Create, followed by selecting New Policy. In the new policy creation process, choose the platform as “Windows 10 and later” and set the profile type to Setting Catalog. Finally, click on the “Create” option to proceed.

Basics
In the Basic Details section, you’ll need to provide key information about the policy, such as its name, descriptiIon, and platform details. For the name, I will use Touch Keyboard Wide Mode. You can optionally add a description, which can help you identify the policy later.
- By default, the platform is set to Windows

Configuration Settings Picker
In the configuration settings, first locate the option to add settings through a hyperlink and click on it. This action will open a settings picker. In the settings picker select the Text input option. When you click on that you will get different type of setting policy from that select the Touch Keyboard Wide Mode Availability.
- Now you can close the Settings Picker.

Touch Keyboard Wide Mode Policy Options
When you select the Settings and close the settings picker you will get the policy settings in the Configuration page. Here you will get the 3 options such as the OS determines when it’s most appropriate to be available. Wide keyboard is always available and Wide keyboard is always disabled.
- You can choose any of the options for policy deployment.
- The OS determines when it’s most appropriate to be available is the defaulted option.

I am choosing the Wide keyboard is always available option. This policy controls the availability of the wide keyboard mode for the touch keyboard in Windows. If the policy is set to Enabled, users can choose to use the wide keyboard layout for the touch keyboard when typing.

Scope Tags
After the Configuration tab, you’ll see the Scope Tags section. Here, you can add a scope tag for the policy, but it’s optional. Since it’s not required, I’ll skip this step and click Next.

Assignments
Next, go to the Assignment tab to apply the policy. Click Add Groups under the Include Group option. A list of suggested groups will appear select the group you want. Once selected, it will show on the assignment page. Then, click Next to continue.

Review + Create
Once you’ve completed the assignments, you’ll reach the Review + Create step. Here, you can review all the policy details. After checking everything, click Create. A notification will appear confirming that the policy was successfully created.

Monitor Status
When you create a new policy for a device, it typically takes up to 8 hours to apply automatically. However, you can speed up the process by manually syncing the policy. After syncing, you can verify that the policy has been applied by checking Intune.
- To do this, go to Devices > Configuration and select the policy.

Client Side Verification
To monitor the status of Intune, you can use Event Viewer. Start by typing Event Viewer in the Start menu. Then, navigate to Application and Services Logs > Microsoft > Windows > DeviceManagement–Enterprise–Diagnostics–Provider > Admin.
You’ll see a list of information. In the right pane, click on Filter Current Log. In the filter dialog, enter 814 (or 813) in the Event IDs field, then click OK to apply the filter. I found the result under Event ID 813.
