Exciting News! Microsoft Introducing Multi-Tenant Organization Capabilities in Microsoft 365. In a recent update, Microsoft announced that Microsoft 365 had introduced a suite of multi-tenant organization (MTO) capabilities designed to enhance collaboration, communication, and administration across multiple tenants.
These capabilities are now generally available. These features aim to improve the way organizations manage multiple tenants. In multi-tenant organizations, a single software application instance serves multiple tenants. A “tenant” is like a digital version of a part of your company.
This allows an organization to run safely, work well, and follow the rules while protecting data. MTO will enhance the organization with its new features in Microsoft 365 to make teamwork smoother, communication more accessible, and task management more efficient across your company’s different tenants.
They’re included in tools like People Search, Teams, Viva Engage, and Defender XDR. In this blog post, we will share an overview of Multi-Tenant Organizations’ capabilities for Microsft 365.

Microsoft Introducing Multi-Tenant Organization Capabilities in Microsoft 365
Usually, an organization starts with one tenant, but as it grows, merges, or splits, it might end up with more. It can be difficult for people in different tenants to work together, and the IT admin has to do the same tasks for each tenant to keep everything running smoothly.

Newly Added People Search Option
In the capabilities of Muti tenant organization, People Search is an important feature of Microsoft 365. This feature will enhance user collaboration by allowing users to find and connect with colleagues across different tenants.
- Tenant admins can activate a feature that syncs user profiles to other tenants, making them visible in the global address list.
- Once it is enabled, users can search and discover synced profiles from other tenants, and it will allow easier communication and collaboration
Collaboration with Microsoft Teams
Collaboration with Teams is another important capability. Microsoft Teams users can enjoy Smooth calls, chats, and meetings across tenants. Administrators create a multi-tenant organization in the Entra ID platform. Organizations using the new Teams desktop client will seamlessly receive the Teams MTO features without requiring any additional configuration.
- With these new capabilities, users can join on Team meetings, chat, call, or collaborate in channels across different tenants.

Connect with Employees and Leaders through Viva Engage
The other capabilities are in the Viva Engage tool above, which I mentioned. With this tool, users can connect, which enhances the ways employees and leaders can connect, share, and measure engagement across different tenants. Viva Engage uses the Hub & Spoke Model for MTO for smooth cross-tenant communication and content sharing.
1. Multi-Tenant Organization Communities
With Multi-Tenant Organization communities, employees from various tenants can view content, post, reply, and participate within these communities. This is the best feature now in Preview, and it will be available in June.
2. Multi-Tenant Organization Campaigns
Another capability through Viva Engage is MTO Campaigns, which allows the joining of official campaigns for all employees across tenants. This feature is also now in preview and set to be available in June.
3. MTO AMAs & Events
The Ask Me Anything (AMA) sessions and events will span tenant boundaries and involve company-wide participation. The preview is expected in June, with more functionalities coming later in the year. This feature will enhance organizational connectivity by enabling employees to engage in Ask Me Anything (AMA) sessions with leadership across various tenants.
4. MTO Analytics
This feature will provide a view of engagement across all workloads and tenants, offering insights into employees’ reach and engagement. When it is available, it will provide detailed metrics for communities, campaigns, and AMAs.

Manage Incidents Across Tenants With Microsoft Defender XDR
Microsoft Defender XDR’s multi-tenant management is a powerful feature for security operations teams overseeing multiple tenants. It helps protect computers, user accounts, emails, team workspaces, cloud services, and information all in one place.
- Microsoft Defender XDR also lets security teams look into problems and track down threats across all customer accounts easily without having to sign in and out of each account

Enable Microsoft 365 Multi-Tenant Capabilities with Microsoft Entra ID
Microsoft 365 offers new features for organizations that manage multiple customer accounts. To use these new features, an administrator can enable multi-tenant capabilities in the Microsoft 365 admin centre. They can also decide which employees are allowed to use these features by setting this up in the Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Entra admin centre.
